The parkour possibilities in Assassin's Creed Shadows are about to get a major upgrade, but is it enough to satisfy the most dedicated players?
Ubisoft is rolling out its Winter Roadmap for Assassin's Creed Shadows, and it's packed with some exciting new features and events for the community. Get ready to flip, flow, and master your moves!
Coming Soon: Elevating Your Parkour Experience
Mark your calendars for February 17th, because that's when a trio of highly anticipated additions will land in Assassin's Creed Shadows. First up, for all you min-maxers out there, a detailed stats page is being introduced. This will allow you to meticulously track your progress and optimize your gameplay like never before.
But here's where it gets really interesting for parkour enthusiasts: a full manual jump is being added! This means you'll have more control over your aerial maneuvers, allowing for more precise and stylish navigation through the game's world. To unlock this new level of control, you'll need to dive into the gameplay settings and enable Advanced Parkour Options.
And this is the part most people miss: alongside these core gameplay enhancements, a community parkour challenge is also launching. Ubisoft is inviting players to showcase their most impressive parkour runs. Here's how you can get in on the action:
- Craft your ultimate one-shot run: Focus on flow, style, and momentum. Pick a breathtaking location or devise an incredibly cool combo. Your submission must be a single, unedited clip, lasting between 45 and 60 seconds, and can be set anywhere within the vibrant world of Assassin's Creed Shadows.
- Upload and share your masterpiece: Upload your video to YouTube and then share it on X (formerly Twitter) using the hashtag #ACShadowsParkourChallenge before March 8th.
- Get noticed and win big: The most outstanding submissions will be featured across Ubisoft's social media channels, and some lucky participants could even snag some cool prizes!
A Major Expansion on the Horizon for Switch 2 Players
Looking ahead to March 10th, players on the Switch 2 can anticipate the release of the Claws of Awaji expansion. This substantial addition promises to inject over 10 hours of new content into the game. It will introduce a brand-new region to explore, along with a new weapon and abilities, fresh outfits and legendary gear, a formidable new enemy faction and bosses, and a new chapter to continue the gripping story of Shadows.
Celebrating a Milestone and Looking Back
To cap off this winter's events, March 20th marks the game's first anniversary! All players can look forward to special livestreams and giveaways to celebrate this significant milestone. Assassin's Creed Shadows had a fantastic launch last year, with Ubisoft celebrating five million players back in July, who collectively achieved a staggering 2 billion stealth kills and petted 38 million animals. With the Switch 2 release in December, that player count has undoubtedly grown even higher.
A Cloud of Controversy and Future Prospects
However, it hasn't all been smooth sailing for the Assassin's Creed franchise. In a surprising turn of events, the former head of Assassin's Creed, Marc-Alexis Côté, departed Ubisoft in October following the formation of a new Tencent-backed subsidiary, Vantage Studios. It later emerged that Côté was not leaving voluntarily but was asked to step aside by Ubisoft, and reports in January indicated he was suing Ubisoft. Is this a sign of internal turmoil, or just a normal business transition? What are your thoughts?
In other franchise news, Netflix's long-awaited Assassin's Creed adaptation is finally gaining traction. The series, initially announced years ago, is set to star Toby Wallace in a co-lead role.
