After a close review, the Cadiz City Council voted to keep its current trash collection provider, GFL Environmental, continuing the company’s role within the city limits. City Administrative Officer Jack Lingenfelter explained that both GFL and Republic Waste, a competing service based in Mayfield, submitted detailed bids earlier this year. After comparing the numbers, the council chose to renew GFL's existing franchise agreement — a move that, according to Lingenfelter, reflected only a slight difference in monthly residential fees between the two companies. However, he noted that commercial rates varied more noticeably, hinting that businesses might see different cost implications depending on which contract had been selected.
For those following local contracts closely, this renewal carries weight: the new three-year franchise agreement will take effect on May 1, 2026.
